San Francisco Giants pitcher Sam Coonrod was the only player to stand during a moment honoring the Black Lives Matter movement ahead of the season opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers, telling reporters after the game that as a Christian he “can’t kneel before anything besides God.”

MLB provided teams with a long black ribbon that players on both sides jointly held as they kneeled in unity.

Every player and coach from the Washington Nationals and New York Yankees took part in the demonstration ahead of their game, but hours later, Coonrod stood alone.

Aside from his religious beliefs, the 27-year-old relief pitcher said there are aspects of the movement that he disagrees with.

"I just can’t get on board with a couple things I’ve read about Black Lives Matter, how they lean towards Marxism,” he continued. “And … they said some negative things about the nuclear family. I just can’t get on board with that.”

Team manager Gabe Kapler, who kneeled during the ribbon ceremony as well as during the national anthem, said he respects Coonrod’s decision to stand.

"The one thing that we said is we were going to let people express themselves,” Kapler said. “We were going to give them the choice on whether they were going to stand, kneel or do something else. That was a personal decision for Sam.”

Several players during the Nationals-Yankees game wore T-shirts saying Black Lives Matter during batting practice, while the letters “BLM” were stenciled into the back of the mound at the center of the diamond.

No matter where you reside on the political spectrum, you have to respect the guy for having the balls to stand up against the Mob.

I think 95+% of the country are on board with equality and doing away with racism. The wise an educated see the BLM movement is just a racial cover for a far left socialist agenda. It's flat out spelled out on their website in the mission statement. This guy educated himself, and then explained his position with deciding not to kneel.

We need more Americans speaking out like this before this movement gains more steam and free speech disappears.

I suspect that the over vast majority who support this group have never even been on the website or read their mission statements

https://blacklivesmatter.com/what-we-believe/

The public is forcefed the lines "protesting for racial justice and against police brutality" line in EVERY gotdamn lib article that is written
about events around the country. No doubt that so many think that is what is going on here.

It takes good people in public positions to say hey lets research this thing a little bit and understand what we are promoting.

Could this be a sports thread?

Probably as close as it gets from the OP....

I can't wait for the day that everything gets back to "normal". Sports. Forums. Whatever. Just back to the good old days. Of 6 months ago.

I'm losing faith that we will ever be "normal" again though.
